After a loss in the Granite State versus Nashua, The Sea Unicorns would travel to Pittsfield looking to scorch the Suns. The first game was a makeup from a rain delay on June 24th.
With a small pitching staff, Norwich would drop the first of the doubleheader 3-5. Trent Price would take the loss going 3.2 innings allowing all five Suns runs, three of which earned. Matt Reyes would relieve him, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings.
The game did not end without some drama as the Sea Unicorns managed to load the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh. Jayson Kramer would lineout to the left fielder to end the game.
Game two became a much different story for the Sea Unicorns, capitalizing on 16 hits in seven innings. The eight and nine batters Ben jerome and Logan Meusy each drove in three in addition to Johnny Knox’s three.
Ethan Errera, Brad Lewis and Robert Zawacki pitched in game two. Lewis would secure the win with two scoreless innings including a clutch bases loaded situation.
For player of the game in both sets, DJ Perron is the unsung hero. He went 7-5 on the day with five hits, two runs, RBI’s and doubles.
Norwich currently has a two game lead on the rival Bees for third place in the standings after New Britain’s loss to the Lake Monsters last night.
Those same Lake Monsters travel to the Rose City tonight as the Sea Unicorns look to take down the first place team. Gates open at 4:30 for F & Blues Band.
