Bees Steal Clincher From Sea Unicorns in Game Two; Advance Two Nights Later With Win

Wednesday night in New Britain, the Hive was filled with Bees fans as the cross-state rivals looked to stay alive, while the Sea Unicorns looked to advance. With a slim 2-1 lead through seven innings, the Sea Unicorns looked to pull away with a clean sweep and move on to their first Futures League Championship.

Starter Daniel Cohen went three innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run, a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the first.

The following inning, the Sea Unicorns would answer right back in the second inning thanks to a Ray Leonzi double to left field. Norwich would score two innings later in the fourth from a throwing error by the Bees backstop.

The Sea Unicorns had the slim lead until the seventh. A double to center with a runner on second would get the job done. An inning later, The Bees would sting again.

A wild throw to the first baseman by Brad Lewis would allow the Bees runner to advance all the way to third base. He would then be driven in by a single up the middle to tie the game.

With the game on the line, All-Star closer Brian Hart entered in the bottom half of the eighth. After surviving the eight, it all came down to the ninth for the Corns.

Despite having runners on, a line-out would end the game. Two days later, the Sea Unicorns would get their revenge with a 12-2 win.

Matt Malcom and Johnny Knox would each have a home run, coasting the Corns to their first ever championship.
