SeA Unicorns Back In Win Column With Win Over Lowell

Norwich, CT – The Sea Unicorns win a back-and-forth battle against the Lowell Spinners, coming out on top 6-4 for a hot evening at Dodd Stadium.

The Rose City came out swinging right away in the first with their aggressive attack at the plate. A Michael Fiatarone single with one out set the stage for Caden Williamson, who smacked an RBI double to left for the first run of the game. After advancing to third on a passed ball, Williamson would score on a Jackson Powers sacrifice fly.

Norwich catcher Bryce Miller had his season debut and came out with a bang. Despite a few passed balls and missed pitches throughout the day, Miller made a great play in the second inning. After Esteban Dessureault singled to right and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Miller got the runner out attempting to steal third.

The Sea Unicorns would strike once again in the third. A Kenny Noe double would set the stage for Powers to drive in his second RBI of the day on an RBI single, putting the home team up 3-0.

However, the Spinners would turn this game on its head. After two quick outs in the fourth, back-to-back singles led to Bradley McCafferty striking with an RBI single to center and put Lowell on the board for the first time today. A Lorenzo Camilleri walk would load the bases before a wild pitch scored a run. Ryan O’Leary immediately made the Sea Unicorns pay, giving the Spinners a 4-3 lead after hitting a 2 RBI single to left. An Aidan Driscoll single and O’Leary stolen base put runners on the corners with two outs before Zander Bratspis fouled out to end the inning.

Immediately, Norwich tied the game in the most unlikely way at Dodd Stadium. CJ Nolan pounded a ball over the left field wall for a solo home run and tying the game at 4 a piece.

A quiet fifth inning allowed for the Sea Unicorns to take the momentum in the sixth. A leadoff double from Powers and Matt Park walked to put two runners on with nobody out. David Pengel would take advantage of this opportunity, driving in Powers with an RBI single to center to take the lead 5-4. Norwich’s next two batters would strikeout to end the frame.

Tonight ended up being all about Powers showing his true power in the box, as he drove in Williamson with an RBI single in the seventh to add an insurance run.

The Sea Unicorns attempted to drive more runs in to buff up their two run lead in the eighth. A leadoff double from Nolan, alongside two walks in the inning to Jake Howlett and Noe, loaded the bases with two outs. However, Fiatarone struck out before anyone could cross the plate.

Jack Scholz was dominant with a six out save. After allowing a single to McCafferty in the ninth, he struck out the next two batters and got Driscoll to ground out to end the game.

The Sea Unicorns are now 13-16 on the campaign. Norwich will look to win once again against the Lowell Spinners Thursday night, this time at LeLacheur Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.

Win – Aidan Cochrane (1-0)
