Riding the coattails of a shutout victory versus Nashua Sunday, the Sea Unicorns will try to repeat their good fortunes as they travel to New Hampshire today.
On the season, Norwich is a perfect 3-0 when facing the Knights. The two teams are slated to meet 11 times in total throughout the season.
Turning back the clock to Sunday, Nashua could only muster four hits off of four Norwich pitchers. Manager Kevin Murphy elected to go with the opener strategy, using starter Clark Gilmore who tossed three innings of two hit ball, striking out four.
Called on next was Chris Jenkins, who spent the last month of 2022 in Norwich and is fresh off a Division III World Series run.
Jenkins would also go three innings, allowing just one hit ultimately getting the win. AJ Rooks would then throw two innings allowing zero hits. Onto close the door, Nick Chiaia who struck out the side in order. Your final score, 4-0.
On offense, the bats where quiet on both sides until the fourth inning. Brennan Hyde crushed a solo homerun that left Dodd Stadium for his first of the year.
The lumber one again when dormant until the seventh and eighth frames. An Austin Bohlman triple followed by a Dean Ferrara RBI single steered momentum in the right direction. Ferrara would then come around to score on a wild pitch.
Ferrara would find himself up the very next inning with two on. The Fairfield five-tool would knock in his second RBI single of the day, putting the final nail in the coffin.
The Sea Unicorns enlist Jared Burrows from Bryant to chuck the leather in New Hampshire tonight as Norwich looks to keep its streak versus the Silver Knights alive.
