Sea Unicorns Struggles With Lowell COntinue in Sunday Loss
Lowell, MA – The Sea Unicorns get their winning streak snapped by the Lowell Spinners, falling 13-0 via the mercy rule.
Lowell’s offense came roaring to life in the second inning, as they did their damage with two outs. Lorenzo Camilla flipped a single to left before Brett Gallo followed by reaching on an error by the Norwich shortstop, giving the Spinners men on first and second. Quincy Kerr capitalized on the opportunity, rifling an RBI base hit through the left side to score the game’s first run. Jack Quigley worked a seven pitch walk to load the bases before Spencer Warfield cleared them, poking an RBI triple down the line in right to give Lowell a 4-0 advantage.
The struggles for Pitts continued to mount in the inning, plunking the next man he faced to give Lowell men on the corners. The Spinners capped their scoring in the second by successfully executing a double steal to make it a 5-0 Lowell ballgame.
In the fourth, Lowell added to their lead with some firepower. After retiring the first batter of the inning, Pitts issued a free pass to Kerr, who later advanced into scoring position at third following a throwing error by Paul Calandrelli. Quigley elevated the pressure reaching base safely on a bunt single to the left side of the infield, ending the night for Pitts.
Those baserunners would end up costing Norwich, as a three-run home run by Warfield plated three more runs to grow their lead to eight. Warfield delivered the big blows all day with three extra base hits and eight RBI’s. His night would go so well against Norwich that it earned him Futures League Player of the Night honors.
In the fifth inning, Lowell delivered their second five-run mark of the night by capitalizing on an error and a trio of walks. Warfield and Aidan Driscoll finished the scoring for the Spinners, with both drilling two-RBI doubles to make it 13-0.
On the rubber, Dylan Izenman took home Futures League Pitcher of the Night honors after tossing five shutout innings of three-hit baseball, along with four strikeouts. The Lowell bullpen was on lockdown as well, with Chris Klueber and Seamus Scott combining for three strikeouts and only allowing one hit in two innings of work.
The Sea Unicorns are now 17-21 on the campaign. Norwich will head home to have a rematch against the Lowell Spinners Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
