Sea Unicorns Struggles Continue with loss to Nashua

Norwich, CT – Rain wasn’t the only thing pouring down in Norwich, as the Sea Unicorns got shutout 16-0 against the Nashua Silver Knights before thunderstorms brought an end to the game in the sixth.

Although Norwich has recently been the team to strike early, Nashua struck faster with a Connor Smith groundout driving in the first RBI of the game.

The Sea Unicorns pitching would only continue to crumble in the second, with back to back singles and a fielding error putting runners on the corners with nobody out. Another groundout by Nashua would put them up 2-0 before Phoenix Williams smashed an RBI single to center to drive in another run. After a double steal put Nashua up 4-0, Ben Peterson cranked a double to left, driving in Williams to put the Silver Knights up a whopping 5-0 through two innings.

Norwich starter Charlie Bushley was pulled entering the third inning, where the Sea Unicorns bullpen took over the game. However, the Silver Knights jumped all over the opportunity. Back-to-back singles and a fielding error would load the bases with one out in the frame. Nashua would get a run on a bases loaded walk followed by a 2 RBI single by Noah Stead to put them up 8-0. A pair of doubles and a single by Nate Kearney would end up giving Nashua an astounding 12-0 lead by the end of the third.

A sac fly in the fourth would give the Silver Knights a 13-0 lead before wild pitches and more fielding errors in the sixth would put Nashua up 16-0. For anyone who knows football, that’s the equivalent of two touchdowns with successful two-point conversions. Sadly, this wasn’t football and the Sea Unicorns weren’t packing the punch.

Bark in the Park was only for the dogs, as the Sea Unicorns offense couldn’t make any noise throughout the six innings of play. The team only mustered up one hit, a Brandon O’Neil double, compared to their five fielding errors. The bullpen continued to struggle for Norwich yet again, with the relievers combining for an allowed five earned runs and 10 hits.

The Sea Unicorns are now 3-6 on the season as the team will head to Worcester tomorrow looking for a fresh start against the Bravehearts. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.

Win – Nigel Cross (1-0)

Loss – Charlie Busley (0-1)
