Sea Unicorns Struggle In Loss TO New Britain Tuesday Night

Norwich, CT -The Sea Unicorns fall just short of securing a playoff spot Tuesday night, losing 5-2 to the New Britain Bees.

The Bees have stayed undefeated at Dodd Stadium in 2026, spoiling Norwich’s clinch party, making the Rose City wait another day for a potential fourth-straight playoff appearance.

Norwich’s offense remained quiet for a majority of the night, as Garret Garbinski dominated on the mound with seven innings of two-hit baseball and no runs alongside his eight strikeouts.

Jacob Schrage did not have the same luck, allowing two runs on two hits and five walks in four innings of work. Zion Frazier had a strong outing out of the bullpen, while Jacob Snyder and Liam Cardman had their ups and downs.

The first two innings were fairly quiet until a Tyler Garbooshian fielder’s choice would score the first run of the game with the bases loaded. The Bees would tack on another run in the third, as Tim Hennig slapped an RBI single to center.

Errors would end up costing Norwich, as two fielding errors were notched onto the scoreboard. One of those errors came in the seventh inning, where a wild throw from Kenny Noe scored a run. Wild pitches would cost Norwich as well, with Garbooshian scoring on a Cardman pitch in the ninth to make it 5-0.

Although it might’ve seemed too late to the fans at Dodd Stadium, the Sea Unicorns made things interesting in the ninth. Alex Casey would come in to pitch for New Britain and immediately face the pressure, with a leadoff walk and TJ Baer HBP putting two on and one out. After that, the Sea Unicorns would strike for back-to-back RBI plays, starting with a Michael Fiatarone RBI double before Jackson Powers rolled an RBI groundout.

However, the ninth inning comeback would fall short. Down 5-2, JP Kuczik would flyout to end the game and secure the victory for New Britain.

The Sea Unicorns continue their final homestand of the regular season with a Wednesday doubleheader against the Westfield Starfires. First pitch of Game One is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. E.T., with Game Two beginning 45 minutes after the conclusion of Game One.
