With just over a month of Futures League baseball to go, The Sea Unicorns opened up the weekend set welcoming the first place Vermont Lake Monsters to Dodd Stadium.
In what could be a potential playoff matchup, Alistair Morin got the ball to take on the Monsters.
Morin didn’t disappoint, hurling four innings of no hit ball, striking out six batters with one run unearned. The starter continues to be a top two starter for the Sea Unicorns as the season rolls on.
After shutting down Vermont in the first. The offense would nearly bat-around, capitalizing on three unanswered runs.
Leadoff hitter Zac Zyons would be the spark early on with a first-pitch single up the middle. He would hit successfully three times, scoring two.
After Johnny Knox worked a walk, Brennan Hyde would deliver a two-run single to score both to get the momentum going the right way.
Jayson Kramer would knock in the third run of the inning on an RBI single to left to bring DJ Perron to the plate.
In the very next inning, Norwich would strike again with an RBI single by Dean Ferrara to score Zyons after he reached on a single.
The Sea Unicorns would add an extra insurance run in the fourth inning which would eventually prove worthy in the end.
After the fourth, Morin was relieved by Teo Spadaccini who was making his Dodd Stadium debut, touching 93 mph with ease.
Teo went 4.2 innings surrendering just one run. He went the distance for the win and a Sea Unicorns upset.
Sunday’s game would not win the battle with mother nature, succumbing to a rainout that would suspend the game after two innings.
The Sea Unicorns end the home stand with a firework spectacular versus the Worcester Bravehearts. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
