Sea Unicorns Finish Road Trip With Loss to Nashua
Nashua, NH – The Sea Unicorns fall to the mercy rule, ending their road trip in tough fashion with an 11-1 loss to the Nashua Silver Knights.
Norwich’s first three pitchers struggled mightily. Janvier Diaz, who’s had an impressive 2026 season to this point, allowed 3 runs in 2 innings before Peter Glidden and Sean McGettigan would combine to allow 4 runs in an inning.
It began right off the bat in the bottom of the first, with a single and back-to-back walks immediately loading the bases within the first three batters faced. A fielder’s choice would score the first run of the game before an RBI single from Hudson Story would make it 2-0. After a HBP loaded the bases once again, a passed ball would score Peter Keblinsky. Nashua would load the bases for a third time in the frame on another HBP, but Diaz would be able to get two quick outs and escape the nightmare.
The Sea Unicorns would see their only run support in the second inning. Matt Park reached base safely on a single to the shortstop before advancing to second on a groundout and to third on a balk. Jackson Powers would drive him in with a sacrifice fly and give Norwich their first run of the game, down 3-1.
The Silver Knights would get that run right back in their half of the second. AJ Kolb led the frame with a double before coming around to score on a Keblinsky RBI single to make it 4-1 Nashua.
Nashua would begin to pile on the offense in the third. A leadoff double and single would put runners on the corners, which immediately cost the Sea Unicorns as a double steal would score a run. After getting Hunter Troiano out trying to steal third, Norwich allowed back-to-back walks. Kolb would add another base hit to his day, smacking an RBI single to right. During the next at bat, Max Forgione would come home to score from third on an error by Henry Ayers. When the inning finally ended, Nashua found themselves up 7-1.
The fourth inning would continue to be rough for the Rose City. Connor Smith rocketed a leadoff home run to left, followed by back-to-back singles and a walk to load the bases again for the Silver Knights. A sacrifice fly from Troiano would make it 9-1 Nashua before two strikeouts would end the frame.
Nashua would drive in their 10th run of the game on a groundout in the fifth before a bases-loaded walk in the sixth would put the Silver Knights up double-digit runs on Norwich, giving them the opportunity to close the game out in the seventh inning with mercy rule. CJ Nolan would be get on base with a HBP to start the inning and steal second, but the team would be unable to get any rally going and fall 11-1.
The Sea Unicorns’ offense struggled all night, going 3 for 24 with 6 strikeouts. In total, the squad left 9 runners on base which cost the team a majority of their run support. On the defensive side of the diamond, the team had themselves another multi-error game, an issue that’s plagued the squad from day one. With the same problems still occurring, it’s a question on whether the team truly has the ability to turn the sinking ship around.
The Sea Unicorns are now 12-14 on the campaign. Norwich will enjoy a rest day on Sunday before heading back to Dodd Stadium for a rematch against the Silver Knights on Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
