Today the Norwich Sea Unicorns have announced that former Major League World Series hero Jim Leyritz will be making an appearance during the Futures League All Star Experience later this month.
On Tuesday, July 23rd, Leyritz will be hanging out with the Futures League All Stars on the field during their batting practice sessions. From 5:30pm-6:30pm, Leyritz will be on the main concourse signing autographs and providing photo opportunities for the fans. Leyritz will also throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the All Star Game.
Leyritz spent 11 seasons in the big leagues and was a part of 2 World Series Championships. His biggest moment came during the 1996 World Series when he hit a monster home run in Game 4 that propelled his team back from an 8-0 deficit and tied the game. His team went on to win that game, changing all of the momentum of the series, as they went on to win the championship.
Also known for his batting stance and idiosyncrasies at the plate, including his bat twirl after each pitch that he did not put the ball in play on, Leyritz played for a total of 6 organizations at the big league level. He started his career as a catcher and also played some outfield, infield and DH throughout his time in the big leagues.
